Sweet Sundaes

The boys and girls have been working to learn their multiplication facts with fluency since the second quarter.  Every time they mastered a new factor they earned a new ingredient for an ice cream sundae. They were given a construction paper piece to paste in their math journals so they could watch their sundaes grow as they progressed through their facts.

 Here are the ingredients:
0s and 1s : bowl
2s and 3s: banana
4s, 5s, 6s: scoops of ice cream
7s: chocolate syrup
8s and 9s: whipped cream
10s: cherry on top

Thanks to our wonderful parents for sending in all the goodies. The reward was sweet.

Multicultural Day

Today was a great day!  We started off learning about composition and warm and cool colors from an artist from Canada. We were able to complete our artwork and mount it to look very professional.

We then moved to painting on rice paper using bamboo brushes as we "traveled" to China, followed by metal work from Mexico.

The experiences continued with an animal touching show and hands-on drumming. By the time we ended the day with the jumpies, popcorn and snow cones we all had to agree: It was the best day ever!

New Fire Lane Information

Per the Fire Marshall's Office, no one is allowed to park in a Fire Lane, whether there is a driver in the vehicle or not, at any time other than the following:

30 minutes prior to the end of the school day and 30 minutes after the end of the school day (this does not include the After School Program nor any other activity at the school)

passengers actively loading or unloading during the day (this would cover students unloading in the morning at the beginning of the school day)

The focus of this email is to reemphasize that the only time a vehicle would be allowed in a Fire Lane would be to actively drop-off and/or pick-up a student were there is no waiting. Other times, such as After School Program or after school activities would not be included.

Should you have questions or concerns, please contact the Department of Public Safety (678) 594-8620

Author Visit

Keheley Kids love to read, so we are gearing up for two author visits in March! For our primary students, author/illustrator Draya Sioux Woolf-Wilson will be visiting. Students have been reading two of her books, Brothers and Sisters and Windy the Windmill. They have lots of questions for this author, as well as some colorful coloring pages and book responses. This will be FUN!

Grades 3, 4 & 5 are getting ready to meet award-winning author Gail Karwoski. Ms. Karwoski has planned curriculum-related presentations for each grade level. Third grade is extending their knowledge of Georgia history, fourth grade will learn about a dog who traveled with Lewis & Clark, and 5th grade will focus on earthquakes and plate tectonics as they hear about the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Ms. Karwoski has written historical fiction about all of these historical eras as well as other exciting books.
We're excited about meeting both of these authors! Happy Reading!

Third Grade Mid-Year Letter

Dear Parents,
EVERY third grader will be receiving a mid-year letter tomorrow. This letter has CRCT information for you, as well as your child's scores on previous assessments. You will see your child's scores from the reading portion of the ITBS and his reading level from the 2nd Q report card. This is information you already have. New information included would be your child's scores from the Language Arts benchmark and the Language Arts checkpoint, both given in December. All of this information will be helpful for you.
