Third Quarter Math Standards

I wanted to share the new math standards for the 3rd quarter.

We currently are working on measurement using the customary and metric systems. We are measuring to the nearest 1/2 and 1/4 inch and also to the nearest centimeter and millimeter. We will also be measuring perimeter and area.

We will be moving to fractions and decimals: how to represent them (0.5 and 5/10), how to add and and subtract fractions with like denominators and how to problem solve with them.

We will continue to count back change, but this quarter the focus is on using the fewest number of coins.

While all this is going on we will STILL be practicing our multiplication facts. The children need to know their multiplication facts through the 10s with fluency. We are continuing to have our multiplication quiz each Wednesday, where your child takes a quiz on the factor he has been working on that particular week. Please continue to have your child review nightly, with multiplication cards or the link on my blog.

We use many manipulatives and smartboard activities for each standard. Math has never been more fun! Thank you for your support!
